Papa Says

Papa said
'Stay in the car boy'
He went to get
Donuts and Rifle shells
It's so hot in the car
With the windows up
It's hard to breathe
Dog is panting beside me
I wish I could
   open the window
But I don't want
   Papa to get mad
I know what happens when
   Papa gets mad
I'm so thirsty
Mebbe Papa will get me a Coke
I can't even swallow.

My back sticks to the seat
   when I move
The dog is so hot
Move away Dog
Mebbe I could just crack
   the window
There is a young lady
   drinking tea
She looks like Momma
   did before
Now Momma stays home
I have to go with Papa
   to the store
If I touch the seatbelt
   it burns
Papa put it right on me
I can't move.
I'm so hot and thirsty
I want to open a window.
But I can't. Papa said.
Just like Momma, but
My eyes are too dry to cry.
