Momma Cries

I'm hungry but no more.
No more poptarts.
No more tuna fish.
No more Jif.
I tell Momma I'm hungry.
That Jack ate the last
piece of bread.
But she don't hear me.
She's too busy crying.
"I wouldn't cry so much
if you didn't lie so much."
I didn't eat the last
piece of bread. Jack did.
He roots through your purse
when you're sleeping in the
green foam chair.
He takes your change for sodas.
I don't even like soda, Momma.
I'm just very hungry.
I haven't eaten much.
You forgot my school lunch today.
And yesterday. That was Monday.
I used my change to buy
Sue's banana.
It was brown and hurt my stomach.

I threw up last night.
I threw up that brown banana.
My stomach still hurt though.
I tried to throw up more.
But my stomach was empty.
Why are you crying now, Momma?
I am the one who is hungry.
Momma, don't pick at the
green foam chair.
That makes Papa real mad.
I wish we had some Wonderbread.
Or Jif.
I'd even eat a banana
if it wasn't brown.
Do we have any bananas, Momma?
I'm sorry you're so sad.
I'm just hungry, Momma.
Just very hungry.
